Looking back on this past year on art, it really flew by. This was only my second year of taking art at Millis High School and it was easily one of the best decisions I made. Before I talk about my artwork and how far I have come with my work, I want to touch on some of the other things this class brought me. First off, I made so many great friends and shared great experiences with my friends. This made the class so much better and I was able to go to them for help and feedback on my work. I also got to see other people progress so much and see all their amazing accomplishments. Lastly it was a class that I could come to and just relax. I didn’t stress and I could just enjoy the class and really work on myself. I definitely think I understand the artistic behaviors and I progressed with all of them as I used and applied them with my work. Some were harder than others, but all of them were helpful and definitely contributed a lot to my success with all my work. I was definitely able to demonstrate all of these because I must certainly would not have accomplished everything I did without them. My favorite unit/part was free drawing. This was definitely my happiest and most successful thing of the year. I was really able to express myself and improve my drawing with having the freedom to do anything. I believe I developed the most from this unit because I have always loved drawing the most. I think I also struggled with it a lot because I would get very frustrated at some points. THis taught me to not give up and that sometimes all I need is to take a break and come back to it later. I’m so happy this class gave me the opportunity to explore and further my drawing. Personally, I loved this class. I don’t think there is a part of the class I would change because it gave me a lot of freedom but also structure to work hard. When I sometimes felt like I needed a break I was able to take one. The critiques were also very helpful and I knew I could count on my teacher and classmates to give me good feedback. If there was one thing I would change it would be to do critiques more often but maybe in smaller groups because I would rarely get feedback. I would definitely keep the freedom of the class because it made me feel more relaxed and not rushed to get anything done. THis was good for me because I was able to take my time and not worry about mistakes as much. I would say I am most proud of my drawing of my horse. Although it didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted it to, I put a lot of time and effort into it and it has a lot of meaning to me. I love my horse and I’m really happy I was able to focus so much on his detail and end up with something I am proud of and then keep forever. Overall I really loved this class and think taking art was one of the best decisions I made in high school.

The past month is art has gone by fast and has been very busy. I have mainly just been exploring with sketching and shading and taking risks with trying new things. I have been really developing skills through solving problems. Just being able to draw whatever I want and learn through my own creativity is truly my favorite thing. It has given me much more appreciation for art and I truly enjoy drawing and exploring new things. This month I started out by just free drawing and drawing whatever came to my head. Then I started to make more of a plan. I drew perry the platypus, worked on my horse drawings and started drawing spongebob and Patrick. It is so much to just be creative and have fun with what you are making. I can’t wait to see where it takes me and what else I will create. I am able to reflect on my own work and learn through my mistakes to improve with each drawing. The past month is art has gone by very fast. I worked on many different things and did a lot of risk taking and creating original art. I decided to take a bit of a different path for the portraits. Originally I wasn't sure of what I was going to do with it and I just started sketching. As you can see I was very creative and I felt like it represented society and global awareness of how people really feel. Although it was very different and slightly confusing, I ended up pretty content with the final product. Before moving onto my next piece I did some free sketching which helped me brainstorm for my next piece. My different variety of ideas allowed me to combine different ideas. From their, I started my new piece. First, I sketched my plan for it and then started it on canvas. This really helped me plan and see what worked well and what didn't. I haven’t finished yet but I plan to spend a lot of time on this and really progress with this piece. I’m very excited to keep working with it and see where I end up. So far, I haven't done a whole lot in terms of projects this month. I started out by doing a lot of sketching. Then we started the boundary project. It took me a while to come up with an idea but I finally decided to do buildings underwater. I wanted to take a risk with this and make the waves clear and for it to be a more basic drawing and just have the two concepts overlap. Incorporating a city and waves together was a really cool concept to me because they are such different things and it is breaking many boundaries by putting them together because people obviously cant live underwater and sea animals don't go into buildings. I decided to draw using oil pastels because I felt it would be the most realistic. The first time I made my drawing I made all the buildings black. Then I unfrotunately misplaced it and had to start over. I put a little more thought into making it creative. Someone gave me the idea of adding a little more color to the city. I thought about this and decided to make each building a different color. In the end the drawing wwas a lot more vibrant and I feel like it shows the boundary even more distinctly. I ended up really liking the final piece even though it was more basic and not a challenge. It helped me develop skill and solve problems when I couldn't find my original piece. It was kind of nice to not put a lot of effort into my art and just mess around for once and I ended up really liking the messiness of my work. It made it stand out more and a lot more orignal and I enjoyed doing it. I'm excited to continue trying new things. There have been so many things going on the past month in art and with the holidays approaching quickly, everyone has been working hard and fast! My art has been improving so much because I have continued to solve problems and not give up no matter what. This has been a big challenge for me, but it is teaching me a lot. I started out sketching a picture of my horse. I made at least three undetailed sketches before I started to get the dimensions and shading right. I stuck with it and ended up being really happy with the “final product”. Although I could still continue with it, I’m very satisfied with how it came out and I’m really hoping to continue developing my skills and come back to it. With Christmas coming up, I decided to make something for my mom. She has a tattoo of three little birds and it goes along with a quote. I decided to paint this for her. It was a challenge for me because I wanted it to be identical to her tattoo so I had to really observe the detail in order to replicate it closely without tracing. I think I came very close and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I’m very excited to give it to my mom. Lastly, I have just started working on a new project. I am still brainstorming and plan to communicate with others to decide what I’m going to do with it. I started by sketching a girl falling. First, I plan to practice the sketch a couple times until I get it down and then hopefully make something really cool and original out of it. I'm thrilled with how the class is going and love coming to work everyday! The past month in Art has been really different and exciting for me. I haven’t done any big projects, but I’ve been working in my sketchbook a lot and really improving with my drawings and creating original art. I’ve been developing so many different skills and have been learning how to use colored pencils and shade with different pencils. I finished my drawing of the girl on the trunk and had to take a lot of risks with this one because I was coming up with it completely from my mind so I wasn’t sure exactly how it would come out. I ended up being pretty happy with the final product. I also made a painting which I initially had no plans for. I just started painting and trying new things and ended up painting a black hole. My favorite part of this project was creating the background using a sponge to get an outer space look. I also drew Kermit the frog which was when I really worked on shading and working with colored pencils. This was not an easy task for me because I had to use a lot of patience and really observe how I was shading and where I had to keep working on. Lastly I drew a baby penguin which was especially hard for me. I really stuck with it and made myself continue even when I was struggling a lot. I used different numbered pencils and different shading tools to really find different colors and work with just pencils. It didn’t come out exactly how I was hoping, but it learned a lot from it and enjoyed the challenge and hope to only improve with this in the future. The past month in art has been very busy with a lot going on. We've started a lot of new projects and taken risks with many different new projects. The things we've worked on most recently were the blind contour, the self portrait, the newspaper ink and I did a lot of independent drawings. The blind contour was very challenging for me and I really had to work on solving problems because I am usually very specific about details. I had to work on accepting the fact that blind contours aren't supposed to be perfect. The self portait was fun for me and I think I learned a lot because last year I did a portrait of my dad and it was a big challenge for me. I spent a lot of time on it and had to come back to it many times. This year I've chosen to focus more on drawing and sticking with my art even when it becomes difficult. This includes developing skills. This year I've really been more involved and into taking risks with my art and creating original art to see where it takes me. My most recent piece of art is still in progress but I'm really enjoying working on it and excited to see where it takes me. I have to admit it was really hard for me at first because I sat staring at the paper for a while. I wanted to just let the pencil flow but I couldn't even think of what to do or how to let go of some control. I finally started drawing and just kept going and I'm really excited to see where it goes and how it turns out. I look forward to continuing with this piece of art and solve problems to further my potential in art.
The past month in art has been very fun so far! It’s the beginning of the year so it has been very busy but we’ve done a lot of fun projects! First we drew ourselves with data which I found very cool to see how everyone;s came out differently. Their were a series of questions and each answer coded for a different way of drawing. I really liked seeing everyones on the wall together and comparing them. The second project was the hives! This was also a really cool project because we were able to express ourselves so much through our art in this. We each cut out 7 hexagons and made a border for them. In each one we drew something that symbolizes something in our lives. I chose to outline 6 of mine in black sharpie and then have those all surround one in the middle that was colored in purple because that’s my favorite color. I collaborated with my friends for this to come up with ideas of what goes best with me. It ended up looking really cool and an awesome example of creating original art. Most recently we created art using negative space. I kind of ventured off from the negative space and ended up just drawing a stapler but it was really interesting to observe other work and how many different ways there are that art can be looked at. We also reflected on our negative space work at the end and getting feedback was really helpful to develop my skills. I’m really excited and helpful for what this year has to offer and all the projects we will do!
